Intended for
Any person involved with or managing activities where there is a requirement for both “PERSONAL” and “GROUP” isolation locks or devices to be installed on fixed or mobile machinery or equipment configurations
Introduction
This is a theoretical and practical course designed to raise the awareness of delegates in accordance with requirements of UK Regulation and guidance including HSG253; PUWER 11, 19 and 22 ; EAWR; BSEN 14118 and various other machinery related standards

- Outline & purpose of LOTOTO
- Consequences of failing to apply LOTOTO
- Requirements under PUWER 11, 19, 22
- Regulations, standards and guidance
- Core procedures for LOTOTO
- Machinery risks & machinery guarding
Course module 2
- Development of the LOTOTO schedule
- Identification of energy sources & energy types
- Common LOTOTO equipment and devices
- Site specific LOTOTO equipment & local procedures (option)
- Development, Control & monitoring of the Isolation Register
- Consequences of failing to apply LOTOTO
Course module 3
- Installing a “personal” LOTOTO
- Developing, installing and controlling a “group” LOTOTO
- Removing LOTOTO & preparation for re-energisation
- Access interlocks & captive key systems
- Emergency procedures for lock removal – key lost
- Consequences of failing to apply LOTOTO
Course module 4
- Use of LOTOTO simulators to replicate plant scenario
- Enhanced case study & development of complex LOTOTO schemes
Entry requirements
DELEGATES WILL HAVE TOTAL FLUENCY AT BOTH SPOKEN AND WRITTEN ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND BE CAPABLE OF GENERATING AUDITABLE DOCUMENTS IN ENGLISH
Assessment method
Assessment will be carried out via a written exam at the end of each module PLUS the completion of a scenario based exercise which will be submitted and assessed remotely post training
