Ascenders
Ascenders are used to enable you to climb up a rope. Most are lightweight manually operated devices that attach to the rope and, when weighted, grips it with a toothed cam. Usually known as a hand ascender, they are also called jumars or jammers, and are a key piece of rope access equipment. Another type of ascender is a chest ascender or Croll, which is attached to the front of the harness. This is used together with the hand ascender and a foot loop, which allows the user to ascend a rope. If budget will allow, a Powered Ascender makes easy work of ascending, and is perfect for long ascents such as on wind turbines. These can also be used for hauling equipment.
